As a sidenote, I thought I was going into a reading slump just before I decided to give a contemporary romance a go, and I seriously think that that, coupled with the fact I was reading the book electronically, helped me a lot. Maybe you should think about doing the same next time you feel like you're heading into a slump - to see if it works for you like it did me!
So far I've read three contemporary romance books, and adored them all. These are:
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
The DUFF by Kody Keplinger
The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland
All three of these, though I went in to them thinking they would most likely be of a light-hearted nature and I'd whizz through them, actually all ended up having something going on behind the scenes - something deeper. And this only made me appreciate them more on a whole other level. I basically loved all three and recommend you read them if they appeal to you (or even if they don't)!
It's so strange how much I adored these books after all this time of avoiding the contemporary genre like the plague!
Are you in any sort of kick right now? Be it a book genre, TV series or movie franchise?
Happy Reading,
Rachel xoxo
PS: Let me know if you're interested in seeing a review of any of these books!
I've been on such a reading kick too lately! I was in the hugest slump for a few months until I read Noggin right as the year ended last year. Since then, I've been on this massive contemporary kick! I read Fangirl & We Were Liars and so many other great ones. I'll have to check these three contemporaries out! Sometimes I read ebooks on my phone but it's such a small screen, so I finally went out and ordered a Kindle! I'll definitely be reading contemporary ebooks from now on. :b

Really interesting post!
ReplyDeleteContemporary is my favourite genre and the genre I read the most of - probably because I spent my childhood reading Jacqueline Wilson books. The flipside of that is that I really struggle with reading Fantasy and historical fiction. However, so far this year I've been in a real sci-fi/fantasy/fairytale retelling kick. Cinder was my first read of the year and it was after that that I really started to get into my reading slump. The only thing that seemed to get me out was another Sci-Fi book - Scarlet by Marissa Meyer.
I'll definitely try out the screen reading next time I'm in a slump - I've got The Selection on my IPad!
Yes! I definitely think reading a different format and/or genre is a great way to beat a reading slump! And I love contemporary romances. I really loved both Second Chance Summer and The DUFF! Glad reading them helped you out :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so great! I love it when you're on a roll, it's the best feeling. Contemporary is my favourite! Hope it stays like this. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeletePS. You should totally add All the Bright Places to the list x
I really want to read The Duff! It's sounds so funny and I watched the movie trailer and it sounds like exactly something i need right now. I'm in a major slump and I light-hearted contemporary is exactly what I need right now ;) I'm glad you're enjoying these novels, sometimes you need something different from your usual picks!

I'm always on a kick for something and at the moment it's just to read all the books! Nothing in particular, but most of the books seem to be series wrap-ups. Why do I torture myself in this way?! I've learned that contemporaries can be the best way to end a reading slump. I haven't read any in a while. I'm glad you loved The DUFF! It's my favorite contemporary that isn't a Gayle Forman novel.
