On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore. Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is one of the lightest, quickest novels I've ever read. Though not what I usually look for in a book, I enjoyed the change and found it to be a fun pastime. I'd definitely say if you're looking for something super light and easy to read this summer (or even on a rainy day), you should put this one down on your TBR. You'll fly through it and come away in a slightly cheerier mood.

I really enjoyed the premise of the plot. I don't usually like time travel books but I didn't really think of this as a time travel book whilst I was reading it. I also really liked the setting of the story and fell in love with the idea of the world Cat was transported to. It just enchanted me to no end and I constantly wanted Cat to walk through the streets and describe every nook and cranny.

I didn't love the main character, Cat, admittedly, but she didn't bother me all that much. I wasn't all that surprised though. I knew from the first chapter I wasn't going to love her. She's just got that 'classic', teenage girl character that I find hard to empathise with. My favourite character, by far, was Lorenzo. He enchanted me just like the 16th century world. As soon as he was introduced, I just knew I was going to fall for him!

To conclude, My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is the perfect read for a sunny, warm summer day when you just want to relax in the garden or if you're looking to be cheered up on a day where you may be feeling a little under the weather. Though the main character was nothing special to me, I did fall in love with the Renaissance era and the love interest, Lorenzo. If you're looking for something light, easy and fun, don't dismiss this one!

THREE TOADSTOOLS TO MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY! :)

Happy Reading,
Rachel xoxo

  2. I just love the sound of this book. It just sounds so cute and I can understand where you're coming from about the main character. Sometimes they just sound all the same and it gets boring after a while.
